Can I deposit my article in YorkSpace if it was published in a subscription journal?

Answer

It may be possible, depending on the publishing agreement you signed with the subscription journal. YorkSpace is York’s institutional open access scholarly research repository.

Because YorkSpace provides open access (i.e., free access to anyone with an Internet connection), authors need to either:

  • Own the copyright to their own works; or

  • Comply with their journal publisher's self-archiving policy.

While a subscription-based journal wouldn’t use an Open Access publishing model, it may still allow authors to self-archive their work. Self-archiving is sometimes known as Green Open Access publishing.

Check out YorkSpace’s self-archiving guide to learn more about using YorkSpace to self-archive your work.
