What does 'stacks' mean?

Answer

'Stacks' are the open shelves of library books that are located in our libraries.  If Omni says a book is in the stacks, then it's on a shelf in the branch indicated in the record. All books are placed on the shelves in call number order.

At Scott Library stacks/books are on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.

At the Steacie Science and Engineering Library, when the location is designated as "Steacie Stacks," you will find the book on the main floor/first floor. If the location is designated as "Steacie Basement", then you will find the book  in the basement. To get to the basement area, use the stairs located in the middle area of the library.

At the Peter F. Bronfman Library stacks/books are located on the main level of the library.

At Glendon Campus (Frost Library) stacks/books are mainly in the basement and on the second floor. A very small part of the collection including education resources, children's literature and some Penguin books are shelved on the main floor's east side.

If you need assistance finding a book in the stacks, please go to the service desks at any of these libraries.
