Can visitors and guests use the computers and print while at York University?
Yes, guests/visitors can use our computers and print at York University Libraries. First you need a Guest Account from either the Building Services desk or Ask Us/Circulation desk. Photo ID required.
Guests and community members must show photo ID (example: drivers licence, passport) to receive a Guest Account to access the public computers to send print jobs to library printers. You must get a new Guest Account each day. Sorry we do not accept Health Cards as photo ID.
Next you can purchase a print card from the black/red/white YUcard-Add Funds machine. There are (3 machines outside the Copy & Print room on first floor of Scott Library and one machine on second floor at the top of the escalators to the right).
Press the button that says Purchase Guest Card - cost is $5.00 bill, $2.00 is for the actual card and $3.00 is for printing. Printing costs 10 cents per page/side. The machine will dispense a card but you must swipe it to complete the transaction. The machine will beep at you and prompt you to swipe the card. Once you have the loaded card, walk directly over to any printer and swipe the card again. You will be asked 'Do you want to associate this card to an account' Yes or No. Chose Yes and type in your guest account ID.
You must associate the guest printing card each day that you come in to use it, so get a Guest Account before you try to associate your card. You can keep adding funds to the print card and keep it forever.
Once you have associated your print card to the guest account, you then go find a computer each floor has lots of computers (log in using your Guest Account) and send job to print.
If you have any questions, come see us at the Ask Us/Circulation desk.
